The University of Zakho is making intensive research efforts, in partnership with the Duhok University, to confront the Coronavirus and limit its spread in light of the worsening crisis in the governorate.
These efforts are in line with the visions and goals of the university, which deals with scientific research and considers it among its priorities, strategies, and future aspirations, and serves the needs of society at various levels.
The Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Zakho, Dr. Nofal Rashid, stated that many studies had been conducted in the previous period to find out the reasons that led to the increase in deaths among those infected with the virus, and the reasons that led to the similarity of some cases accelerated recovery compared to other cases suffering from severe symptoms and long stay under intensive care.
He said that research indicated that people who show symptoms are quick to undergo virus detection checks and adhere to quarantine according to health instructions and take medicines because the chances of their recovery exceed those of people who do not care about the issue at all. He added that the period of imposing the curfew has significantly curbed the spread of the virus, but after the ban was gradually lifted, we witnessed a sharp increase in the number of infections, at a rate of up to 300 cases per day. The high rate of HIV infections is attributed to the community’s lack of awareness of the danger of the virus, failure to take the necessary preventive measures and to regularly wash hands, wear masks and gloves, use sterilizers, and follow health instructions.
